Mute Swan
Go to any lake or river and the chances are that you will be able to see Mute swans. Our relationship with them goes back thousands of years. Probably because of their aesthetic appeal, we have had an enduring interest, almost an infatuation, with these birds. We do not have to look very far to see numerous references to swans in our books, music, poetry, stamps, art, theatre and public houses, and even in technological innovations such as ships, motor cars and aircraft. They are often regarded as a symbol of love and fidelity because of their long-lasting monogamous relationships, and they are revered in many diverse religions and cultures. I too have had a long interest in swans and have spent many years capturing their life on camera. Here is a selection of some of my favourite images.
